In a delightful start to 2024, Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman teamed up with soul legend Al Green for an impromptu performance at Freeman's Ground Zero Blues Club in Mississippi on New Year's Eve.
The unexpected musical collaboration featured the pair performing Green's classic 1971 hit "Let's Stay Together." Freeman, wearing a white turtleneck and dark jacket, joined Green, who sported a white button-down shirt and green patterned blazer, on stage surrounded by instrumentalists.
The crowd erupted in applause as the duo sang the memorable lyrics, "I'm so in love with you / Whatever you want to do / Is alright with me." Both performers beamed with joy throughout the performance, swaying to the rhythm of the Billboard Hot 100 chart-topper.
Earlier in the evening, Freeman revealed to CNN reporter Oscar Jimenez that performing with Al Green was a "dream come true." The actor also shared the story behind opening Ground Zero Blues Club in 2001, explaining that a chance encounter with tourists seeking blues music inspired him and his business partners to create the venue.
Freeman documented the special moment on social media, sharing photos of the performance on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption, "We ushered in the New Year with Al Green and Kingfish at Ground Zero last night. Happy New Year, everyone!"
The unexpected musical collaboration marks a rare public appearance for Freeman, who recently appeared in "Special Ops: Lioness" and is set to feature in the upcoming "Now You See Me 3" alongside an all-star cast including Jesse Eisenberg and Mark Ruffalo.
