Former Libertines frontman Pete Doherty has revealed details about his ongoing treatment for drug addiction, sharing that he receives injections every six weeks as part of his recovery program.
The 45-year-old musician, who has been clean from heroin and crack for four years, discussed how medical technology has evolved in treating his addiction. "Now I just get a shot in the arse once every six weeks," Doherty explained. "It's not an actual implant anymore, but it's a similar idea – it blocks [the effect of opiates]."
This treatment represents a change from his previous medication regime, which involved a buprenorphine implant inserted under his skin in the upper groin area.
When asked if he misses drugs, Doherty took a thoughtful pause before responding. "I don't think 'miss' is the right word," he reflected. "I think about them, a lot. It's like a nefarious, twisted old friend."
The musician's recovery journey coincides with positive changes in both his personal and professional life. Now based in Normandy with his wife Katia de Vidas and their 19-month-old daughter Billie-May, Doherty has enjoyed recent success with The Libertines' latest album reaching number one in 2024.
His newfound stability marks a stark contrast to his heavily publicized struggles with addiction in the past, which included multiple arrests and tabloid scrutiny. Today, Doherty focuses on his music career while maintaining his treatment regime, demonstrating a committed approach to his ongoing recovery.
