Thrash metal pioneers Anthrax are gearing up to release their twelfth studio album later this year, marking their first new record in eight years. The announcement came from bassist Frank Bello during last week's NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) show.
According to Bello, the highly anticipated album is scheduled for release in September or October 2024. The band has been working with producer Jay Ruston, known for his work with Stone Sour and Avatar, over multiple recording sessions spanning the past few years. Adding to the excitement, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl made appearances during some of the recording sessions.
"We have a new Anthrax record coming out. And it's been about eight years," Bello said during his NAMM appearance. The bassist also revealed extensive touring plans following the album's release, hinting at major shows in development for 2025.
The upcoming release will be Anthrax's first full-length album since 2016's "For All Kings." The band, recognized as part of thrash metal's "Big Four" alongside Metallica, Megadeth, and Slayer, continues to maintain their position as one of metal's most influential acts.
While specific details about the album's musical direction and track listing remain under wraps, fans can expect to hear the new material on the road as Bello confirmed the band plans to "stay on the road for quite a while" following the release.
