Los Angeles thrash metal legends Dark Angel are gearing up for a historic performance at the legendary Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood on January 29, 2025, where they plan to unveil their first new material in over three decades.
The band's last release was their 1991 album "Time Does Not Heal," which became famous for its ambitious composition featuring "9 songs, 67 minutes, 246 riffs!" Now, after a lengthy hiatus and subsequent reunion in 2013, Dark Angel is ready to showcase fresh music to their patient fanbase.
The current lineup includes drummer Gene Hoglan, guitarist Eric Meyer, bassist Mike Gonzalez, vocalist Ron Rinehart, and newest member Laura Christine on guitar. Christine joined the band in 2023 following the passing of original guitarist Jim Durkin.
Behind the scenes, Dark Angel entered the studio in July 2023 to begin recording their new album. Drummer Gene Hoglan has been particularly active in the creative process, mentioning his dedication to projects that he believes will resonate with Dark Angel fans.
The band's approach to the new material reflects their musical evolution, aiming to create a natural progression of their sound rather than attempting to replicate their earlier works. This strategic direction suggests the upcoming material will honor their thrash metal roots while incorporating over three decades of musical growth.
The choice of the Whisky A Go Go for this momentous occasion brings Dark Angel full circle, as they return to their Los Angeles hometown to share their latest chapter with their dedicated followers.
