Pop icon Cher has announced that her upcoming album will likely be her final musical project. The 78-year-old singer shared the news during a Q&A session at London's Lyceum Theatre while promoting her memoir.
"This is probably my last album that I'm gonna do," the legendary performer revealed. "They are great songs and I'm just really excited that I'm doing it."
The upcoming release will mark Cher's first album of original material since 2013's "Closer to Truth." The new project is expected to be produced by her boyfriend Alexander "AE" Edwards, though recording has not yet begun.
Known for her characteristic humor, Cher joked about her age during the London appearance. "I'm older than dirt now. I'm the oldest person I meet in almost every room unless I'm in an old folks' home," she quipped.
Throughout her influence on pop culture spanning seven decades, Cher has sold over 100 million records as a solo artist and achieved numerous milestones. She made history as the first solo artist to score Top 40 hits across seven consecutive decades in the UK. Her 1998 hit "Believe" remains the UK's best-selling single by a solo female artist.
The announcement follows the success of her 2023 holiday album "Christmas," which reached number 5 on the charts. While the news may disappoint fans, Cher's legacy as one of music's most enduring stars is firmly cemented, with achievements including an Oscar, Emmy, Grammy, and recent induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Despite contemplating retirement from recording, Cher maintains her spirited outlook, saying "I don't know how to feel any different than the way I've always felt."
