Disturbed frontman David Draiman has set his sights on creating a genre-blending track with rap icon Kendrick Lamar, aiming to craft what he calls "the modern-day Walk This Way."
The metal vocalist revealed in a recent Q101 interview that Disturbed has already written a song specifically designed for a rap-metal fusion, with Lamar being their top choice for collaboration.
"We have this track as part of our new album material," Draiman explained. "It's about unity and bringing people together. It needs a strong rapper, and Kendrick would be an amazing person to collaborate with."
Drawing inspiration from historic crossover hits like Run-DMC and Aerosmith's "Walk This Way" (1986) and Public Enemy and Anthrax's "Bring The Noise" (1991), Draiman envisions a similar boundary-breaking impact with this potential partnership.
The Disturbed singer recently reached out to Lamar through Instagram, though he hasn't received a response yet. "With somebody that big, I'm probably just a tiny blip in a huge sea of noise," Draiman admitted. "But now that we're talking about it, maybe it will cut through."
Making a direct appeal during the interview, Draiman called out to the rapper: "Kendrick, if you're at all interested, let's shock the world a little bit. Let's show everyone we have more in common than what separates us."
While awaiting word from Lamar's camp, Disturbed continues moving forward with their ninth studio album, recently releasing their new single "I Will Not Break."
