Gorillaz, the pioneering virtual band, is set to release their ninth studio album in 2025, according to frontman Damon Albarn. The announcement came during a recent interview with French publication Les Inrockuptibles.

"I'm finishing a new Gorillaz album," Albarn revealed, adding that the upcoming release will accompany his new opera project in 2025. Band collaborator Jamie Hewlett supported the news through social media, indicating the album's completion is expected within six weeks.

The announcement follows the success of their 2023 release "Cracker Island," which reached No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Music Album. The band's last live performance was at the 2023 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

This new project marks another chapter in Albarn's prolific career, which recently included Blur's 2023 album "The Ballad of Darren." While Blur's reunion has concluded, Albarn remains focused on multiple creative ventures, including his opera "The Magic Flute II: La Malédiction," which premiered at Paris' Théâtre du Lido.

The upcoming Gorillaz album represents the band's continued evolution since their formation, promising fresh material for their dedicated fanbase. Additional details about the album's content and exact release date are yet to be announced.
