New York rock trio Sunflower Bean has unveiled their fourth studio album "Mortal Primetime," set for release on April 25 via Lucky Number Records. The announcement comes alongside their new single "Champagne Taste," a track that pays homage to their secret show alias from their early club days.
The new single arrives with a minimalist music video featuring singer-bassist Julia Cumming delivering pop melodies, while guitarist Nick Kivlen channels Black Sabbath-inspired riffs. Drummer Olive Faber rounds out the performance on a stark white soundstage.
"Mortal Primetime" marks the band's first self-produced album and follows their 2024 "Shake" EP. The record chronicles the band's personal journeys over the past three years, including relationship endings, relocations, and various side projects.
"Love is really at the heart of this record," Cumming shared on social media. "It is our history and our truest forms. It's our dedication to each other and every moment that we get to decide we don't need to hold back."
The album's lead single "Champagne Taste" draws its name from the band's former pseudonym, which they used when playing unannounced shows in New York City venues. The track embodies the secretive excitement and rock & roll spirit of those underground performances.
This release follows their 2022 album "Headful of Sugar" and represents another evolution in the band's sound and artistic direction. The new material promises to showcase the group's growth through recent personal challenges and creative transformations.
