Academy Award-winning composers Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are returning to video game scoring with "Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet," a new title from acclaimed developer Naughty Dog.
The game was unveiled at The Game Awards on December 12th, marking Reznor's return to video game soundtracks since his groundbreaking work on "Quake" in 1996.
"The Heretic Prophet" is a PlayStation 5 exclusive that follows Jordan A. Mun, a bounty hunter who becomes stranded on Sempiria, a mysterious planet that has been cut off from outside communication for centuries. Players must help Jordan navigate this isolated world and attempt to break its 600-year orbit lockdown.
This new project adds to an already busy schedule for the Nine Inch Nails duo, who are also working on multiple film scores including "Tron: Ares" and Luca Guadagnino's "After The Hunt."
The partnership between Reznor and Ross has proven highly successful in the scoring world since their debut collaboration on "The Social Network." Their portfolio includes acclaimed works for films like "Gone Girl," "Bird Box," and "Soul."
Naughty Dog, known for hit franchises like "The Last of Us," "Uncharted," and "Crash Bandicoot," appears to be breaking new ground with this futuristic space adventure. The combination of their storytelling expertise with Reznor and Ross's distinctive musical style suggests an ambitious new direction for both the developers and composers.
Release dates for "Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet" have not yet been announced.
