British pop sensation Charli XCX has emerged as the frontrunner for the 2024 Brit Awards, securing five nominations for her acclaimed album "Brat." The nominations include album of the year, artist of the year, and song of the year for her collaboration with Billie Eilish on "Guess (Remix)."
Close behind with four nominations each are Dua Lipa, the Last Dinner Party, Ezra Collective, and Myles Smith, setting the stage for an exciting awards ceremony.
In a remarkable turn of events, The Beatles have received their first Brit Award nomination since 1977 for their AI-enhanced track "Now and Then." The legendary band's previous nominations came during the inaugural Brit Awards, which celebrated Queen Elizabeth II's silver jubilee and the phonograph's centenary.
The nominations list reveals a gender disparity, with male acts comprising 53% of the 98 nomination slots, while female artists represent 34.7%. Mixed-gender acts and collaborations account for the remaining 12.3%.
Rising star Myles Smith has already secured the Rising Star award and garnered additional nominations in the new artist, song, and pop act categories. Meanwhile, Mercury Prize winners Ezra Collective have made their mark with nominations following the release of their third album "Dance, No One's Watching."
The Cure has also made a notable return to the Brit Awards scene, receiving their first nominations in over three decades. Their album "Songs of a Lost World" earned them recognition in three categories: album of the year, group of the year, and alt/rock act.
The ceremony, scheduled for March 1 at London's O2 Arena, will see comedian Jack Whitehall return as host after a three-year hiatus. The producer and songwriter of the year awards will be announced before the main event.
Last year's major winner Raye, who claimed six awards in 2024, expressed her support for Charli XCX, stating, "I'm excited to watch Charli XCX clean up this year, she just deserves it so much."
