Julian Lennon, the 61-year-old musician and eldest son of Beatles legend John Lennon, recently underwent an urgent seven-hour surgery after doctors discovered melanoma on his skin.

The emergency procedure came after his dermatologist in Los Angeles identified concerning areas on his shoulder and forearm during a routine check-up. The discovery forced Lennon to cut short his New York promotional tour for his photography book and fly directly to Los Angeles for immediate surgery.

"Instead of going home to put my Christmas tree up and happily finish the year off, I flew directly back to Los Angeles and went straight from LAX airport to surgery," Lennon shared on social media platform X.

While doctors believe the operation was successful, Lennon is currently awaiting biopsy results, which may not arrive before the Christmas holiday. He expressed gratitude to his medical team, particularly Dr. Tess and Dr. Tim, for their swift response in coordinating the procedure.

This isn't Lennon's first encounter with skin cancer. In February 2020, he had a cancerous mole removed from his head that he'd had since birth. That experience left him shaken but strengthened his faith.

The "Too Late for Goodbyes" singer used this opportunity to advocate for regular health screenings, urging his followers to "please get yourself checked out by your doctor."

Known for both his music career and photography work, Julian Lennon continues to carry forward his father's artistic legacy while maintaining an open dialogue about health awareness with his audience.
