The wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner was shot by police during a dramatic incident in Los Angeles' Eagle Rock neighborhood on Tuesday, authorities confirmed.
Jillian Shriner, 51, sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound after allegedly pointing a handgun at officers who were searching the area for hit-and-run suspects from an unrelated incident.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers responded to a call for backup around 3:25 p.m. PT to help locate three suspects who fled from a freeway crash scene. While establishing a perimeter, police encountered Shriner armed with a handgun outside her residence.
Police say they repeatedly ordered Shriner to drop her weapon, but she refused and pointed the gun at officers, prompting them to open fire. After being struck, Shriner retreated into her home before later surrendering alongside the family's babysitter.
Paramedics transported Shriner to a local hospital where she received treatment for her injuries. Police recovered a 9-millimeter handgun from the residence.
While investigators determined Shriner had no connection to the original hit-and-run incident, she was subsequently booked on attempted murder charges. Both Shriner and the babysitter were later released from police custody.
No officers or community members were injured during the confrontation. The LAPD's Force Investigation Division is conducting an ongoing investigation into the shooting.
Shriner, also known as Jillian Lauren, married Scott Shriner in 2005. Scott Shriner has been Weezer's bassist since 2001. The couple has two adopted children.
Representatives for both Shriner and Weezer have not provided detailed comments about the incident.
