Music legend Neil Young has shared his enthusiastic endorsement of the new Bob Dylan biopic 'A Complete Unknown,' praising it as a "great tribute" to the iconic songwriter.
Writing on his Neil Young Archives website, the 79-year-old musician expressed his deep admiration for both Dylan and the film. "I love Bob Dylan and his music. Always have. He's a great artist," Young wrote, adding that he "loved" the James Mangold-directed feature.
The film, which stars Timothee Chalamet as Dylan, was released in the US on Christmas Day and will hit UK theaters on January 17. Chalamet's portrayal has already earned him a Golden Globe nomination, with Oscar buzz building around his performance.
Young's positive review adds to the film's growing acclaim. Behind the scenes, Dylan himself was closely involved with the project. Producer Peter Jaysen revealed that Dylan participated in a complete script reading with director Mangold, offering notes and ultimately giving his blessing with the words "Go with God."
In a humorous aside, Young mentioned an earlier encounter with Dylan: "Once he was on my bus and I didn't recognise him and threw him off but that's another story."
The endorsement comes during a busy week for Young, who made headlines over his Glastonbury 2025 appearance. After initially pulling out of the festival, citing concerns over its corporate nature, Young reversed his decision and confirmed he will headline the Pyramid Stage, joining previously announced acts Nile Rodgers & Chic and Rod Stewart.
'A Complete Unknown' continues to generate buzz as it expands its theatrical release, bolstered by support from music industry veterans like Young who recognize its value in celebrating Dylan's legacy.
