Hip-hop icon Snoop Dogg recently praised Kendrick Lamar's diss track "Not Like Us," highlighting its unexpected positive impact on West Coast unity, despite being part of a heated rap battle with Drake.
During a Drink Champs interview in Las Vegas at ComplexCon, alongside Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg revealed how the track brought together not just West Coast rappers but also rival street gangs. "Let me tell you what that record did do. It unified the West," Snoop explained.
While acknowledging the track's confrontational nature, Snoop maintained his neutral stance in the Drake-Kendrick feud, describing it as "a grown man going against a grown man." He emphasized that the song's impact extended beyond music, fostering peace between traditionally opposing groups.
The Long Beach rapper noted that the track's release led to unprecedented unity, with Blood and Crip gangs establishing peace treaties and forming genuine friendships. This transformation of former rivalries into alliances marked a notable shift in West Coast dynamics.
Snoop's appreciation for Lamar's influence was also evident following the "Pop Out" concert in June, where he publicly acknowledged K. Dot as "the King of the West" and praised his ability to unite people peacefully.
Earlier in the feud, Snoop found himself unexpectedly involved when Drake released "Taylor Made Freestyle," featuring AI-generated versions of Snoop and 2Pac's voices. The track was later removed following legal threats from Tupac Shakur's estate.
The veteran rapper responded to his AI inclusion with characteristic humor, posting a video expressing bewilderment: "They did what? When? How? Are you sure?"
As the West Coast continues to experience this newfound unity, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre are preparing to release their collaborative album "Missionary" on December 13.
