The remaining members of legendary grunge rock band Soundgarden are coming together for a special performance in Seattle, performing under the name Nudedragons at the upcoming SMooCH benefit concert.
The December 14 show at The Showbox will feature Matt Cameron, Ben Shepherd, and Kim Thayil, marking a rare reunion of the band members since the passing of frontman Chris Cornell in 2017. Singer Shaina Shepherd will join them on vocals for this charitable event.
The annual SMooCH concert (Seattle Musicians for Children's Hospitals) raises funds for Seattle Children's Hospital's uncompensated care program, which provides medical treatment to children regardless of their families' ability to pay. While this year's event is already sold out, the organization continues to accept online donations.
This isn't the first time the band has performed as Nudedragons - they previously used this anagram of Soundgarden for a 2010 show at the same venue. The upcoming performance represents only the second time the three surviving members have played together in Washington since Cornell's death.
The benefit concert will also feature performances by Sebadoh, Duff McKagan, and Doug Martsch. SMooCH, founded in 2012 by Pete and Brandy Nordstrom, has generated over $28 million for the hospital to date, with last year's event alone raising $2.6 million.
Soundgarden, formed in Seattle in 1984, stands as one of grunge rock's most successful acts, with album sales exceeding 13.5 million worldwide. Their 1994 release "SUPERUNKNOWN" accounts for 9 million of those sales, cementing their place in rock history.
