Indie rock icons The Magnetic Fields have delighted fans by announcing a special anniversary tour celebrating the 25th anniversary of their landmark album "69 Love Songs." The band will perform the beloved triple album in its entirety across multiple nights in select cities throughout 2025.
Led by songwriter Stephin Merritt, The Magnetic Fields will kick off the anniversary tour in March 2025 at New York City's Beacon Theatre with three consecutive performances. Each night will feature one complete volume of the original three-disc collection, allowing audiences to experience all 69 tracks live.
"This album has taken on a life of its own over the past quarter century," Merritt noted in the tour announcement. "It feels right to honor these songs and our dedicated listeners with full performances in an intimate setting."
Additional multi-night residencies are planned for Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, and London in winter between April and September 2025. The band will be joined by several guest musicians who contributed to the original 1999 recording.
Originally released on Merge Records, "69 Love Songs" earned widespread critical acclaim for its ambitious scope and eclectic mix of musical styles - from synth-pop to country to punk. The concept album's examination of love in all its forms has influenced countless artists and maintains a devoted following.
Tickets for the anniversary shows go on sale December 1st, 2023. The band has indicated that additional cities may be added to the tour schedule based on demand.
Band management noted that each performance will feature unique arrangements and special documentary footage from the album's recording sessions. Limited edition merchandise commemorating the anniversary will also be available exclusively at the shows.
