Childish Gambino has announced the cancellation of his highly anticipated Australia and New Zealand leg of The New World tour, citing a longer-than-expected recovery period following surgery.
The multi-talented artist, also known as Donald Glover, shared the news through a statement to ticketholders. "Unfortunately, my path to recovery is taking longer than expected," Glover explained. "The upcoming concerts in Australia and New Zealand are cancelled."
The tour was scheduled to begin in Auckland on January 28, followed by several Australian shows in February, including additional dates in Sydney and Melbourne due to high demand.
This announcement follows the earlier cancellation of his North American, UK, and European tour dates in October. At that time, Glover revealed he had visited a hospital in Houston after his New Orleans performance due to an apparent ailment, which led to scheduled surgery.
In his message to fans, Glover expressed his regret about the cancellation: "One of the last things I'd ever want to do is disappoint my fans. I really appreciate the support you have shown and know that I will do what I can to give u an exceptional experience when the time is right."
The cancelled tour was meant to support his latest album "Bando Stone and The New World," released in July 2024 via RCA Records. This album marks Glover's final project under the Childish Gambino moniker.
Ticketek has confirmed that all ticket purchases will be automatically refunded to customers. Fans who bought tickets through other vendors are advised to contact their point of purchase for refund information.
