Bob Bryar, former My Chemical Romance drummer, who served as the drummer for rock band My Chemical Romance from 2004 to 2010, was found dead in his Tennessee home on November 26. He was 44 years old.
Law enforcement sources confirmed to multiple outlets that Bryar was discovered at his residence, with his last known sighting being November 4. While the cause of death remains under investigation by the medical examiner, authorities have ruled out foul play.
A spokesperson for My Chemical Romance released a statement saying, "The band asks for your patience and understanding as they process the news of Bob's passing."
Bryar joined My Chemical Romance in 2004 after meeting the band while working as a sound engineer for The Used during a joint tour. He went on to become the group's longest-serving drummer, performing on their breakthrough 2006 album "The Black Parade" and contributing to 2010's "Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys" before his departure.
In a 2016 interview with Alternative Press, Bryar reflected on joining the band: "I left a very good touring gig where I was tour managing and doing sound...to join a band that was filthy, had s---ty gear, a smashed-up, smoking, death-trap van and was poor. They smelled bad, too. I was so happy to receive the offer."
After leaving music in 2014, Bryar transitioned to real estate and dedicated time to animal welfare causes. In 2021, he officially announced his retirement from drumming, citing wrist issues and age as factors. His final contribution to music included auctioning his My Chemical Romance drum kit to benefit an animal control center in Tennessee.
Following the discovery of Bryar's body, local Animal Control removed two dogs from his home. The investigation into his death continues.
