Bob Bryar, Former My Chemical Romance Drummer, Dead at 44
Bob Bryar, who served as the longest-tenured drummer for rock band My Chemical Romance, was found dead at his Tennessee home on Tuesday. He was 44 years old.
Law enforcement officials confirmed Bryar was last seen alive on November 4. His body was discovered in a state of advanced decomposition. While the medical examiner is investigating the cause and manner of death, authorities indicated no foul play is suspected.
Bryar joined My Chemical Romance in 2004 after meeting the band during their tour with The Used. He came aboard following the release of "Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge" and went on to play a key role in shaping the band's signature sound, most notably on their landmark 2006 album "The Black Parade."
Though he contributed songwriting to the band's 2010 album "Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys," Bryar departed My Chemical Romance before its release. After leaving the band, he transitioned from music to real estate.
In recent years, Bryar had been open about his mental health challenges, sharing publicly about his struggles with suicidal thoughts following his exit from the band. In 2020, he made an appearance at a tribute event for Rush drummer Neil Peart, where he spoke about their friendship and Peart's influence on his drumming.
Following the discovery of Bryar's body, Animal Control removed two dogs from his residence. My Chemical Romance, who reunited in 2022, is scheduled to tour in 2025, though Bryar was not part of the reunion lineup.
Bryar's impact on My Chemical Romance during their peak years remains an enduring part of the band's legacy. His drumming helped define their sound during their most successful period, cementing his place in rock music history.
