The Recording Academy has announced that legendary musician Prince will be honored with a prestigious Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award at a special ceremony in Los Angeles on February 1, 2025.

The late musical icon, who passed away in 2016, will be recognized alongside other influential artists including The Clash, Frankie Beverly, Taj Mahal, and Frankie Valli during the Special Merit Awards Ceremony at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre.

Throughout his groundbreaking career, Prince earned 32 Grammy nominations and won seven Grammy Awards, including Best Rock Performance for his iconic hit "Purple Rain" in 1985. Three of his albums - "1999", "Purple Rain", and "Sign of the Times" - have been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

The Minnesota native sold over 150 million records during his lifetime and is widely regarded as one of music's most innovative artists. His influence continues to resonate, as evidenced by a current Grammy nomination for "Diamonds and Pearls: Super Deluxe Edition" in the Best Historical Album category, where Prince served as mastering engineer.

Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. celebrated the diverse group of honorees, noting that "Each of this year's Special Merit Award recipients has left an indelible mark on music, from paving the way for others to innovation that forever has changed the trajectory of the musical landscape."

The Special Merit Awards Ceremony will take place one day before the 67th Annual Grammy Awards, which will be held at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on February 2, 2025.
